A short report on a recently reported Ukrainian proximity fuze, called Drop-2 (Ukr: Kрапля-2)

  • A new Ukrainian proximity fuze has been reported

  • The fuze is called Drop-2 (Ukr: Kрапля-2)

  • It is similar to the Johnnie series, however, features a RCWL-0516 microwave doppler proximity sensor instead of, or in addition to, the magnetic influence sensor

  • This doppler sensor allows remote detection of the movement of personnel and vehicles, removing the need for tripwires or operator-control minefield control devices

  • The Drop-2 has recently been deployed in a modified AO-2.5RT submunition and an OZM-72 anti-personnel mine, there are likely other instances

  • When fitted to the OZM-72, an NM series initiator was used to electrically-initiate the mine
