A recent video by the Russian Strategic Missile Forces has shown a longer variant of the 9M723 series (Iskander) ballistic missile.

  • The original 9M723 rocket motor (right image - C) is approximately 2.2-2.3 m, with the new variant (left image - C) estimated to be 3.3-3.4 m using scaling

  • The larger rocket motor will increase the range

  • The extended range can allow for strikes deeper into Ukraine, or allow the launcher to be further from the front line, thereby reducing the likelihood of it being engaged
