Russian UMPB found crashed in Ukraine

  • UMPB (Ru: УМПБ), also referred to as the D-30SN (Д-30СН), is an air-dropped, winged, guided munition

  • Reported to carry FAB-250 series bombs, however this believed to be incorrect, and the UMPB instead carries an intrinsic 250 kg warhead

  • The unit reportedly is similar to the GROM-1 and reportedly contains;

    • A guidance unit with inertial and GNSS guidance

    • A winged control section

    • A tail section with ailerons and rudders

    • A turbojet and fuel tank

    • A 250 kg warhead

  • This design has a greater range than glide bombs, but less than cruise missiles

  • It is likely cheaper to produce than complex cruise missiles

  • It reportedly features a ‘Comet’ (Ru: Комета) 8-beam antenna which is stated to have a high resistance to electronic warfare (EW) as it can simultaneously neutralise 7 interference sources.
