A cache of rockets have been reportedly discovered in Gaza

  • A cache of rockets have been reportedly discovered in Gaza

  • The exact calibre was not initially known, but was estimated to be 57mm

  • The rocket's designation was unknown, but they appeared to be similar to the 57 mm S-5 air-launched rockets

  • S-5 type rockets have been used extensively by Hamas in Gaza, using improvised man-portable and vehicle-mounted launchers

  • The high manufacturing quality of the rocket, fuze cap and fin sleeve indicate that these may be factory-produced and supplied to Hamas by a friendly state

  • These were later discovered to be 80 mm Syrian M-80 surface-launched rockets

  • The M-80 rockets are electrically-initiated from the rear, with spring-loaded fins that are shorter than the standard S-5
